Self Promotion

I am always looking for ways to garner new business ... like all self-employed folks out there. Recently I have been approached by the San Diego area Better Business Bureau and I am interested to see if being a member has helped anyone else out there.

The cost to become a member, at least here locally, is $385 which would pay for a couple or more ads if I chose that route. Does anyone out there have any experience with the BBB? Do they really help a company or is it just another expense to write off at the end of the year?
