Corel Draw 12 Problem

I have two PCs @ my home named "XYZ" and "XYZ1" and i use CorelDRAW 12 on both of them, now the problem is that whenever i try to open .CDR file created on my PC "XYZ" on my "XYZ1" system it takes almost half an hour to open even the smallest file of 1 MB.

But same does not happen when i open file designed on "XYZ1" on "XYZ"...

I've scanned my complete system with Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but no viruses were detected...

Please help me out...

It sounds as if a file, or some files, that CorelDraw12 depends on are missing or corrupt on your XYZ1 system. I would suggest rebooting the PC if you haven't already. If the problem persists the next steps would be to reinstall CD12 and/or uninstall, then reinstall the application.

A failing hard drive would also account for the symptom(s) you describe. Make sure you perform a backup of your system before attempting any repairs or re-installs.

It could be differences in OS and security settings.

If your XYZ computer is Vista and your XYZ1 computer is XP the Vista computer can open files readily on the XP machine but XP will have difficulty authenticating to the Vista machine.

The same security issues can occur if one machine is XP Pro and the other is XP home.

Are both machines part of the same domain or workgroup?

For your home network make your machines members of the same workgroup. This will help resolve most security issues between different machines.

Also check your firewall settings. One machine may allow local IP connections and the other may not.

both the PCs are not a part of local area network...
i transfer files b/w them via USB Drive...

dis does not happen when i get file from some different source...
both the PC have windows xp pro sp2 installed on them

Do both machines have USB 2.0?

A machine with USB 1.0 will be slower to open files from a USB drive than one with USB 2.0.

I have this problem on some of my older machines.

Yup both the machines have USB 2.0

and i'm not running file directly from USB drive, i 1st copy that file in to my pc and then run it from there...

The only suggestion I have left is to do a defrag of the hard drive on the XYZ1 computer.

If that does not work then you may have a problem with the drive itself, or it may be an older drive with slower read/write timing.

Nothing else I can suggest.

Half an hour? Sounds like the hard drive is dying.

It has a brand new 80GB Seagate Barracuda HDD..
It only takes tym to open file from "XYZ" system, this does not happen when i open .cdr files from some other sources....

ok so lets review this situation

you only have a problem opening a CDR file with XYZ1 and only if the CDR was created on XYZ

so CDR files created on XYZ1 open okay on both XYZ and XYZ1 and CDR files not created on either machine open okay on both as well

- right?

then given your hard drives are okay, HayTay is on the right lines in that something is wrong with your XYZ1 installation [that affects opening files, but does not affect saving them]

have you tried re-installing Draw on XYZ1?

and incidently do you have the same anti-virus / security programs on both machines
