I know this is a simple thing and I have done it before but I have forgot how and am so tired I can't remember. How do you change a black and white bitmap into something that you can edit with color.
Thanks

set the dark and light colors you mean? - right click on color bar menu in xtreme 4 [unless you have it disabled in options]

Xtreme's Bitmap Tracer (Utilities Menu/Bitmap Tracer...) sounds like what you need to do editing,
although you can contone a monochrome bitmap by clicking on any colour one the colour line at the bottom of the workspace.

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx.
If I right click on a color of the color bar the whole box turns that color. I want to color the black and white parts of the image other colors, ie the black to blue, red, etc and the white to other colors also. I know it has to do with the bitmap tracer but when I do that in monochrome I get just a copy of the bitmap. If I do it in limited colors the whole thing goes black. I have done this before and I know you can make all the lines turn into individual editable objects, I think and I thought it was a simple process but I am missing something.
when you do trace in limited colour ungroup and separate out - there is maybe a black shape on top - especially if the bitmap has alpha [transparency]
as far as color bar goes:
if you are not getting a menu the right click then yes that will happen - you should use the color editor in pre ver 4 - in ver 4 you also have the option to set menu or not

With the bitmap selected, open the Color Editor (Ctrl e). Adjust the Dark Contone setting.
