Default Hitch exporting 'Clipping Group' as graphic

Having created a clipping group banner in XX4, then cut and pasted into XWD, I tried to export it as JPEG and PNG. This seemed to go smoothly with the exported dimensions showing correct.
However. when the graphic was imported back into XWD it has been reduced in size.
    Is this a bug?

When it comes to XWD I admit to be a novice, but as my previous XX postings should show, I pretty well understand Xara vector graphics:

Perhaps this is a result of the resolution setting (dpi) used when you exported the clip view. What did you use?

    Thanks for the prompt response.

No, that crossed my mind so I ensured that the export was done at 100%.

100% at 72dpi is not the same as 100% at 96dpi or 300dpi (etc)
In other words, dimensions (resolution) at a given dpi differ at 100%

    Hi Ray,

This does seem to be strange behaviour.

I exported a bitmap filled rectange to jpg. My original is 609 x 83 pixels.

When I import the exported jpg image it comes in at 500 x 68 pixels but it is 117 dpi.

Changing the jpg to 609 x 83 pixels it returns to 96 dpi, the Windows standard.

Thanks for the suggestions Sledger, I tried exporting at each resolution from 96 to 300 dpi but non of them imported at the original size.

    A bug?

Actually Ray I think you're right. I was using Xtreme and not WD for the above example.

WD does seem to have a problem.

I created a 37x796pixel bar and exported at 96dpi to PNG.
I imported the bar.png (which still showed as 37x796 in Windows explorer) but WD imported the bar at 23x500 pixels 153dpi.
The bitmap gallery shows the bar.png as 96dpi at 37x796 pixels however.

I could manually change it back to 37x796 on the page without any quality loss, but the importer seems to get it wrong.
Looks like a bug, I'm make sure it's noted.

Don't know whether anyone else has noticed, but the 500 pixels figure seems to be a common item .... almost like there's a maximum size setting somewhere!

Yes you're right Keith (smack on forehead)
WD imports (losslessly resizes) all bitmaps (which exceed 500px) as a 500pix image.

I'm still not used to this and frankly don't much like it if the truth be known.

(Of course, this can be changed in the Windows registry - perhaps a XaReg tweak might be in order

I don't like it at all, and don't see any reason for it. If a user wants 501 pixels there is no reason whay Xara shouldn't use the size specified.
