Using a single colour?

Hi Folks,
I managed to lose myself in this feature-rich Paint Shop 8

I want to use the paint brush to lay down a single color.
Choosing "red" for example, the area I paint on the canvas seems to lay out a mixture of "red" but also several other colors that are just a different shade of red.... but still isn't the single color I select from the materials pallet.
Paint shop must be trying to "average" the colors so that they 'Blend' with the rest of the canvas.

How the hell do I turn that off?

Use the flood fill tool. If you want to do it with a paint brush, don't choose one with a soft edge and be sure you are at 100% opacity.
