Default html to Web Archive, single file (*.mht)

Web Archive files are an easy way to save a web page for reference without having an html file and a folder with the images, etc.

Today I tried to create an archive of the Web Designer Introduction template. The html displays accurately in IE7, however the archive file (*.mht) has some overlap of the text.

This is not a major problem for the web designer, but it could be for anyone saving the page from a website.

First attachment is the html as seen in IE7. The second is how the .mht file is shown in IE7.

It appears the width of the text areas are not retained in the .mht file.
But the absolute positioning is not adjusted to fit the new width.

Bill, have you tried printing the same page to PDF?

I asked this specifically because of Horwendil's question in the thread http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=36726

Html or a single file containing the html with embedded images and links.

An mht file would be a single file containing all images, links, and javascript associated with a particular web page.

Of course a zip file containing the html file and any associated images, javascript, and/or subfolders would be a single file but not directly viewable using Internet Explorer as the web browser.

Outlook was specified as an email client. Outlook can be used to create a fully functioning web page with images and links and viewable within Outlook. It would have to be saved as html to be viewed if the recipient does not also use Outlook or another html complient email client.

    Fair enough.

Just testing this I find that this seems to be an IE problem, because Opera can save as .mht also where the result is perfect (even when showing Opera's .mht in IE7).

Thanks Steve. I did not know Opera could save to mht.

Also I appologise for how I worded my previous post. I've been awake for over 30 hours and becoming a bit cranky.

I think I will go get some sleep before I further embarrass myself.
