Rich - Very lovely effect. It looks like a pastel drawing.
Ron - Your spinning avatar is becoming your life's work. But it keeps getting better and better the more you work with it.

Thanks Gary,
Using textures with bitmap transparency is similar to the way a few programs do texturizing. Xara has much more flexibility, however. I have lots of textures in the fill gallery, and use them to create transparency.
Letting the background image show through the image gives the effect. The background was an MFI plugin run from XXP.

As a comparison, the image was texturized in E3. E3 tiles from the botton left of the page. You only get size control when loading the texture. Black in a texture caused full transparency. In Xara, white causes transparency in BMT. You also have scale, position & have profile control. But the basic way of achieving texture is to make the image transparent.

A SM separatioin in XXP, and made into a tile.

This is really great stuff. We should have you do a step by step tutorial on doing this and posted in the xaraxone.

Ron,
I did a tonal adjustment on most of my grayscale textures because in Bitmap Transparency, black retains the opacity and white make full transparent. You don't have to use grayscale textures since BMT will work regardless. I have sets of textures in the Bitmap Gallery.
Many programs use the textures to shade. I usually modify a copy of the image and blend it with other layers.
Probably easier to answer thing you don't understand.

A quick line tile. It isn't necessary to design the tiles at angles since the transparency function can rotate the tile. The tile is seamless. The first image was selected, and then the tile from the bitmap gallery. In the bitmap gallery, hit transparent. Use the transparency tool to adjust the transparency created by the tile. A copy of the image was modified using Mezzoforce Ice. MI2 Lite is available free and will do 1000 pixel images. From Xara, the plugin returns a border. I have an earlier version that doesn't return a border. The later version returns with pixels in the tranpsparent area if you have a transparent graphic. I can make an image mask in Xara to clear the field. In Photoshop, I make a selection from the transparency, and save the selection as an alpha channel. Then use the selection to clear the image.
