    Hi Fuss,

    A blend along a curve would be a good place to start. The attachment isn't exactly like the image you had linked but may give you an idea of how to accomplish the effect yourself.

    Start with a narrow rectangle the convert to editable shape.

    Narrow one end. Apply a flat bleach transparency. Duplicate the rectangle and create a blend.

    Create a circle. Select the blend and the circle. Select the Blend tool and then click the blend along a curve icon on the infobar.

    Adjust the size of the circle to where the rays (quadralaterals, former rectangles) are to your liking. Clone the blend and rotate it slightly so the rays overlap.

    I added a feathered circle and diamond shape to the center just for effect.
