I have reboot my computer.
Curiously, I can see more thumbnails now, but not all.
Some test created this morning appear, but a file I just created does not appear.
I have the impression that the display is completely random

I don't speak English, but french (thank you Google translator), but Xara is above that! )
Dominique thank your for postings your .xar files.
I'm using the 32bit version of Vista Ultimate on a 64bit processor system.
The thumbnails show for you files. I have simply downloaded them and have not opened them.
The 64bit versions of Windows XP and Vista have some issues that are not present in the 32bit versions. The thumbnail embedded within a .xar file is a gif, perhaps the 64bit version has a problem with something in some .gif images.
The first attachment is Windows Explorer showing the thumnbails. The second is a screen shot of a HexEditor view of one of your .xar files showing start of the embedded gif.

Here's my file. 3 hearts, glow, bevel. Saved and no preview.
Windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit!!
What makes this whole mess laughable..... as I was selecting the file from my desktop.... the previewed thumbnail showed fine in the browser window!!

Richard the thumbnail appears fine on my 32bit Vista machine.
Can you save the attached .gif to your hard drive and check that it will display as a thumbnail on your system?
The gif is the actual thumbnail embedded within your .xar file that I copied using a HexEditor.

Not sure what your asking me. I don't know about how to hunt down the gif file itself.

Richard Bill is asking you to save that attached .gif file to your hard drive and let us know if Windows Explorer shows the thumbnail for it.
Save it to your desktop for example. If you see a thumbnail (of that) image, then Windows Explorer is working as it should.
Displays just fine!

Strange. Now all of a sudden the .xar file is displaying the thumbnail!! This is just weird!

I have just tested Xtreme on a fresh Vista 64 installation, in regards to the thumbnail previews I have found this so far.
First I should say that I did not allow the CD autorun to start the Xtreme installation. I when directly to the setup.exe on the disc and ran as Administrator. Also the first run from the desktop icon I right-click 'Run as Administrator' in order to make sure that the first time file association requests (.web and .xar) are written to the registry.
(Note: No other software has been installed at this time. No AV and no Xtreme options changes or XaReg changes.)
I opened and created a new file in Xtreme and saved it to the desktop.
No thumbnail was displayed.
I opened and created another new file in Xtreme which again I saved to the desktop however in the 'Save As' dialog, the first file showed a thumbnail preview.
While the second file still did not show a thumbnail on the desktop, the first required a screen refresh (F5) to show it's thumbnail as it had in the Save As dialog.
I repeated this process numerous times with the same result.
In other words:
The Last file created and saved did NOT display a thumbnail UNTIL a new file was created and saved.
Although I've not checked any further at this time, I suspect that there is a registry issue here, for some reason the most recent file is locked which may be causing denying access to Windows Explorer to show the embedded Gif thumbnail.
Fig1: See how (below) that in the Save As dialog I am about to save a new file. The previous file (Untitled4.xar) shows a thumbnail in the dialog, but not on the desktop. yet once this new file is saved and the desktop refreshed (F5), Untitled4.xar WILL show a thumbnail, yet not the new one.
