Default cutting shapes that go over the margins

    hi
i have a flower design on a4 paper and have parts of a flower over the edge of the paper so I try to cut that bit out using slice - cut shapes and all it does is delete the whole flower and not the selected part and it also leaves lines where i tried to cut it. what am I doing wrong?

Slice just does that, slices. It leaves everything where it was but sliced. Try selecting and moving (or deleting) the piece you sliced off separately. It sounds like the line is the join between two pieces.

Are you selecting both objects and using Ctrl+4?

Interesting - I would get all the pieces remaining if I sliced with a line or if the rectangle was above the flowers

If the rectangle is below the flowers I would expect to see as attached [note color change]

    1) Group all items
    2) Create a background the size of the canvas, Send it to back (Ctrl+B)
    3) Select All Items (Ctrl +A)
    4) Apply ClipView (Q)

    No more overhangs.

that will mask - but it dosn't slice - might well do the job but it depends what it's for

Slice? Mask? The result's the same. I would have suggested ClipView as well. Then if you decide you don't like the cropping you can change it and reapply ClipView.

Why does it sometimes come down to egos. We are trying to help a member understand a Xara function here, not defend our opinions with snide remarks.
