    Thanks Steve, Hans, and Egg.

Egg in the error message you posted the last line indicates that access to read the registry was denied.

It does look like security on Hans' and Egg's systems is the cause of the program not running.

This is an update to correct a bug that Sledger found with the Fill Blobs hit-detect and Freehand End hit-detect.

EDIT: Download the newest version from the XaraXone.

Yes, Steve, I saw them. But I'm talking about other settings I use all the time -- dividing colors in the Color Line for example (and some other setting too). So my dream is a compete Xtreme registry description, not just short comments regarding settings the program does change. I'd play with setting on my own, but really don't want to do it without description to avoid any damage in the registry )))

P.S. As for the rest settings, I think I will take some time to post them (and registry entries) at the weekend...

Hi Bill. Sorry to give you all this hassle.

It does look like security on Hans' and Egg's systems is the cause of the program not running.
I've tried turning off the Norton security/firewall features and running your app again but unfortunately still end up with the same original error message that I posted.

Only a suggestion as I'm no programmer. Are you sure that running your app with XXP open hasn't written a reg entry to stop further reg entries? Just a shot in the dark

Okay Bill, just had another idea. My laptop is on my wireless network and uses the same Norton security as this desktop (xp) computer.

I d/l'ed the app from your last link and ran it on the laptop (vista) and it functioned without a hitch.

So I would have thought this might indicate that the problem was not with my security set-up but elsewhere. I could be wrong and in the majority of cases I usually am ;-)

Please see the two screen captures that are attached. One from a system running Windows XP and one from a system running Windows Vista.

Download the attached XaReg.zip file and extract the executable (XaReg.exe) to a folder on your harddrive. Double click the program's icon to run the application.

I would like to thank Steve Ledger (Sledger) for designing the User Interface. The UI is the most important feature of any application and I'm sure you will agree Steve has made the program very easy to use.
    Hi Bill,
downloaded the registry tool and it worked well, I'm running windows vista and the only problem I have found is that when after using the tool I'm left with this image on my desktop and the only way to get rid of it is shutting down, if I use the tool again the same thing happens? Anyway I can prevent this?

Egg thanks for taking the time and checking on your laptop. I'm still doing some research as to what may be causing the issue. It is good to know it runs on your Vista system. The program was compiled on one of my Vista machines (Vista Home Premium).

Alex it would be very nice to have a guide to the Xara registry. I'm working with only the information gathered from many posts over the past 8 years and some trial and error testing on one of my spare computers. I do not want to lose my primary PC in the event I change something I should have left alone.

Stygg you can hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select Task Manager. Look in the Processes tab for XaReg.exe. Click on the name then click the End Process button. I'm researching the cause of that issue. Duplicating the problem has been intermittant on my systems. But I can duplicate it and hope to find the cause soon.

Egg and Hans I think I have solved the problem causing XaReg not to run on your machines.

My stupidity in not allowing for Xara application registry entry filenames of less than 5 letters was the problem.

I had forgotten that Xara3D5 was entered as X3D5 in the registry. Trying to run the app on my Windows 98 machine with X3D5 produced the same error message.

Download the latest version of XaReg from the XaraXone.

Harry I'm having a very hard time duplicating the problem you describe. The same code is used to make the Guides colour change for all versions of X(treme).

Is there any more information you can provide? Could you make a screen capture using Regedit and show HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara expanded to show all the Xara program names?

Stygg do you get any error message when XaReg starts? Perhaps you may need to click OK then click Continue on the details message?

Thanks to every one that has posted in this thread. You all have provided great feedback.
