In response to your question, "was the ring traced and/or copied?" the answer is no. I was inspired by an add I saw on a serial box I think, but the ring and design is completely original. Here's a tut that I hope helps!

If it would not be imposing to ask about the shading?

To me the curvature on the top of the ring is more than just a copy of the top oval feathered - or am I wrong? Just reading now, so should really try before asking - but that will be 8-10hours away when (tonight).

Had a chance to play around. Almost there but something missing?

I know the ring should be platinum not gold, but ignore that - as I said the clinet has pick a different logo, but I'd still like to get the idea.

Wow steve now that I'm doing this it makes me think how did you ever end up with such a cool ring!

It's really fun to do but I'd never have thought of it.

    Getting better (I think).

Alright Turan, I'm sending you the XARA file so you can disect it till your hearts content! But beware, when all the layers are on it takes a while to load!

And for all the rest, the curvature on the top was just a clone of the shape with a profiled elliptical transparency. A few small feathered shapes were added too to give it some kind of effect that looked right but couldn't tell you why! Hope this is helping!

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting your mini tutorial. Here's a ring I made using your technique.
