Default Line Type will not print

    Hi All,

I have a strange one today.
If I draw a closed shape, 5 pix wide with no fill it will print, but when I give it the "dab" line type it will not print...Why?

Correction: When I give it any line type other than "constant" it will not print.

    Thanks much

    Hi mg,

I cannot duplicate the problem on my system.

Please save the attached .xar file to your system and try printing it. Does it print correctly?

Would you also attach one of your .xar files that will not print?

mg your file will not print on my system.

I do not know why but I have found a way to make your shape's outline print... well almost.

    1. Select your outline.

    2. Press Ctrl+1 (Arrange > Combine Shapes > Add Shapes

    3. Arrange > Break Shapes

    4. Move the resultant black filled shape. Delete the bits left in the original location.

    5. Apply a line color to the new shape and remove the fill color.

    6. Apply a line stoke, 'dab', 'blip', etc.

    7. Print

The attached file contains your original outline and one created using the steps described above. I enlarged your shape before making the new shape, I was examining the nodes to no avail.

BTW the new shape is the one on the right. The stroke profile shifted to a different set of nodes.

Wow! Thanks for all that work Bill.
    I appreciate your kind efforts.

It does make one wonder: exactly how was an unprintable shape created?

No, I just played around with this some more...
I redrew the shape with the shape editor tool. When the shape closed it fills with black. I right click the "set no color" box, and select "clear fill color".
Then I change the line width to 5 pix. At that point the shape will print. If I apply ANY "stroke shapes/pressure profiles" from the line gallery to the shape it will not print.
However if I simply draw a line, set the width to 5 pix and apply a "stroke shape/pressure profile" from the line gallery to the line it will print.

This is very unusual. I noticed it after I applied the patch to the Pro 4 version, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Can the patch be removed?

    Thanks again,

    mg

    Hi All,

Here is another example sheet of what will and will not print...very strange.

It includes Bill's modified shape which does print.

well for what its worth - both your files printed through distiller to pdf and opened apparently intact in illustrator CS3 as vector paths

we have had an issue like this before several months ago I am sure - but can find no reference to it to hand

Similar to Steve's comment, I simply exported to PDF from Xtreme and printed fine.

Steve, I think it was Eggs printing problem with a Stained Glass door design for a pub

mg.architect, as worked for Eggs drawing, also works for yours:

In Xtremes File>>Print Options>>Output [tab], change to 'Print As Bitmap'

    Hi All,
Yes it does sound very similar to Mr. Bramhill's problem, and he didn't appear to achieve resolution.

Something is wrong here when you can draw something using the software but cannot print it the usual way via the printer.

    This is disappointing.
