    Default Drawing with Ellipses

OK, I admit, nothing new under the sun, but I wanted to show what I've been learning over the last day or two in some spare time about drawing simple shapes constructed from ellipses. This is helping me, so I'd like to share it.

Basically, as I see it - most natural, organic shapes are mostly a combination of circles and ellipses, so it follows that you should be able to complete an object with just those shapes.

This follows on from this thread - but rather than hijacking the topic (any further ) started by Amitai, I'd like to start a new discussion.
I chose a cat (again) because it's a likable subject, easily recognisable and well, why not

.xar attached for anyone who wants to try a different pose?

Steve, I saved your graphic and copied the ellipses. I then deleted the graphic, to see if I could assemble the cat without the aid of the box lid, as it were. Although the attachment is meant as a joke, it does tend to reinforce what you have said about the organic quality of the shapes.
    Saludos,
    Bob..

For some reason your ellipses made me think of a pig. I'm not sure what that says about my psychological state (or if I want to know).

I would bet that about 90% of my tutorials begin with a circle or an ellipse.

It is one of the most common shapes and also one of the most pleasing.

    Absolutely Gary..

Infact, most of what I do every day has me going 'round in circles

Here's a quick update (as this thread has become somewhat of a challenge).

I added three more ellipses. Eye ball/Pupil/Shadow
Cloned the entire shape, change the colour and set a fractal plasma transparency.

Using the same ellipses (and adding a curved line for tails) I introduced some distractions.

I find the whole process of graphic conceptualization fascinating: how the creator has to see "ahead" from raw shapes to a complex end result.

I think it's a fairly natural application of 're cognition'.

The same concept applies when assembling single letters to form a word or sentence which we recognise (and verbalise) without necessarily seeing the letters as single entities.
