memory usage in OSX classic mode

I'm trying to resize an mp3 and the system keeps crashing!!!!

Seriously though, I am running OSX 10.2.4 and Photoshop 6.0.1 in classic mode and when I look at the memory usage of the application sitting at idle the system shows that it is using between 50% to 75% of the allocated memory given to the program.

If you have 6 and OSX check it out :
system prefs->classic->mem/ver (tab)

Is this normal?
In OS9 it used less memory.

I understand your question but I wonder how it relates to Photoshop, other then that some users us OSX to run Photoshop http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
