xara is a lot easier to learn that many computer graphics programs...

If you are happy with downloading and installing the trial versions of the programs then the place to start is to look at the help movies that come with the program in the help menu.

Hi, could someone please explain how this effect was achieved?

Not the rotating, but actually how to shape the button that the image is on so that it is the same shape as the design.

To get the shape of the logo/image as the font character, it must be created as a vector object in a program like Xara Xtreme. You can either hand trace the object with the shape editor tool or use an automatic bitmap tracer, and create a filled shape the same as the logo/image.

This can then be cut and pasted into X3D as a text object.
