AccessD's RASTER.EXE does keep original colours if you choose 'Trace CMY and Copy'
The result is a resizable Vector image made up of coloured dots.

Hmm, I've got some issues here. Don't know if it's a bug or me doing something wrong?
It looks OK in RASTER but when I paste the trace in Xara the raster dots are too big and overlap each other (I've outlined the dots in the close up)
Also, a note about my technique: You can resize the image as the colors are simply enlarged pixels without any loss of quality and the file size is kept low as well (one pixel equals one raster dot).

The Raster program looks more impressive now. That 1st screen view doesn't do it any favours.
My computer's internet is still not set up yet so I haven't had the chance to see Paul's new tutorial but I think I can work out how it is done. Clever idea and scaleable too.
Not completely happy with my technique, I have developed another cleaner method for gradiating the halftone sizes. This time I have used a brush. When I'm online again I will post the tutorial if you haven't work it out by then.
gnurf - I used a point size of '3'
Once pasted into XaraXP, there were three rows horizontal and 3 vertical rows that needed a slight nudging. (Still slightly visible as I rushed this )
Sledge - by decreasing the dot size you just get a tighter raster pattern. As you see from my screenshots it looks OK in raster but when I paste it in Xara the raster dots have bloated and overlaps each other - it doesn't help if I increase or decrease the dot size (and won't even try to resize each dot separately in xara).
BTW, I'm having Wordpress problems so the previous link to the tutorial doesn't work, use this on instead http://www.gnurf.net/v3/?p=51

Changing the point size setting to '3' works for me..it doesn't help if I increase or decrease the dot size
The example I posted above is a screenshot from Xara - not RASTER.
It all depends on the size of the Bitmap you paste into RASTER in the first place.
RASTER only seems to work well at 3 point setting, so if you want bigger dots, start with a smaller image.

A little more experimentation shows that accessD's RASTER software works much better when pasting to CorelDraw than it does with XaraXtreme. Perhaps Dmitry could comment?
Meanwhile, my results using the CorelDraw route are all quite satifactory if this is the effect you want.
A spot colour vinyl banner created this way would be quite effective I think.
