Non-Scroll Mouse

My Microsoft Optical Mouse is getting jumpy, so I purchased a new corded optical mouse on Amazon.com.

The mouse required a drive download for Vista. Except when I installed the new software the new mouse was jumpier than the old one.

So I have reinstalled my old mouse until I can find something better.

But the scroll has stopped working. I can chose the Zoom option in Xara which works fine. But the scroll does not.

The scroll does work with my browsers however.

Any ideas on how to get back my scroll? It is really making me crazy.

Gary did you uninstall the driver for the new mouse? It may be causing the problem.

XP has a roll-back function for drivers, so you can undo the latest driver update and revert to the previous.

Removing Intellipoint 6.0 did the trick!

Bollix Microsoft for that mess.

Optical mice have always been jumpy for me, and sometimes it was difficult to get pixel-fine movements, because the mouse would stick slightly on the surface.

But a few weeks ago, I found the perfect mousemat, a cheap black polythene cutting board from Ikea. The optical sensor can read the surface's dimpled grid pattern easily, and the polythene material lets the mouse glide very smoothly. I no longer suffer from mouse-jump, nor have any difficulty in very tiny movements.

The board cost me about 99 pence, and I went back to Ikea to get another board for work computer, and found they stopped stocking the black ones, now stock only the white ones, which the sensor cannot read because it is overwhelmed by the brightness from the red LED.

I eventually found another polythene board a dark blue, which is even smoother, but it is about an inch thick!

I bought a "welcome mat" and use that for my mouse pad. I cut it to about 2 feet x 2 feet - nice and large. The somewhat rough surface with graphics on it works great with my optic mouse and the largeness of it keeps me from running off the pad when playing some hectic game. I also built a shelf about 9 inches below my computer desk that allows me to keep my hand at a comfortable level when drawing or gaming.
