My scanner is recently showing a wide grey stripe down one side of my scans. What causes this and how can I fix it?
Thanks!

Take the shredded piece of paper out of the scanner
Seriously may need to recalibrate.
Is the grey stripe solid and blocking the scanned image or can you see the scanned image within the stripe?
Try recalibrating as Aridzone suggests.
Observe the scanner as a scan is performed to determine if the light source is even for the entire width of the scanner. The light may be failing and may not provide an even light source. If the light is the cause of the problem, it may be cheaper to simply buy a new scanner rather than pay for repairs. A replacement light tube may cost more than a new scanner.
If possible look inside the scanner to see if there may be dust or lint blocking a portion of the CCD sensor. That will be where the light is focused after being reflected off the source image.
The CCD sensor may be failing and not responding to light as it was designed. Again a replacement would be less costly than paying for a repair.
