I'd put it like this, if I had to choose to either walk (ie. Illustrator's slow performance) or hop on one leg (Xara's horrible layer gallery) for a marathon, I'd walk. I do believe I'll get to the goal just as fast, but without breaking a sweat and hey, I have time to look at the scenery!

But note, when it comes to icon creation, it is Illustrator which ties the hand around my back!
So post in the AI Forum instead of the Xara forum on the virtues of Adobe Illustrator?

Assuming that everyone traces objects to do art is rather arrogant isn't it?

Lot of people here do 3D and I can guarantee than an User Interface as you described made in 3D will be in every way superior of what you can do in Adobe Illustrator. Not only can a 3D object be viewed from any angle, 3D by its definition has built-in layering by its very definition. Besides, that most 3D programs have very complex layering capability with textures, displacement and lighting.

But, this is not the 3D part of the forum now is it?

A combination of the use of Layer and Name galleries is quite powerful. Very few people (I suspect) use the Name gallery. I was going to write another of my mega tutorials on it, but never got round to it...

I for one would be very interested in it. Your tutorials are very thorough. Right now I have no idea why I should use named objects. Unlike named colors

Oh, no. When it comes to Apple's OS X icons, for example, they are also photo realistic... but not quite. They change the light somehow to be... too perfect.

I tried to make such icons myself, but have so far failed, so big kudos to them!
Art should tell a story. Don't paint a moment, paint a lifetime.

    I'd say this is smart.
Xara is assuming that you want to slice only the selected objects, makes sense to me.
You can shift+click and select multiple objects and Xara will slice through them all.
Or you can group them first, then draw the line, select the group (as you would if it were one object) then ctrl+4 to slice the group (as if it were one object). If you need the sliced group as seperate (but sliced) objects, just ungroup them!

    Works for me

    Thanks sledger!
Your right I can shift click, Im sure I tried that many times in xara pro
the first version and it didnt work for me then, but hey Im probably wrong
but Im glad you posted this,,,
ok what about the gradient tool haha !

I love the profile tool xara has for dual colour fill, but it doesnt work
between two side by side colours in a multi colour fill, I think thats the
next step in the further development of that tool..can`t wait!! =D

    Mark,
