Export your bitmap file from Xara at 90 DPI to trace it with the excellent Inkscape built in tracer. Then you will be able to re-import the vectorized result at the right size in Xara.

ivan

Hello Ivan,
Does the 90 dpi work better than 96 dpi? Just curious why the difference from the Windows/Linux normal dpi.

Yes, 90 DPI works perfect for me while 96 DPI exports too small. I don't know if this is specific to Linux however ...because I work with the Windows version of Inkscape ! Now I suddently understand that perhaps I didn't post this thread in the right forum ???
kindly,
ivan
No problem with being in the Linux forum, this way I think both Windows and Linux users will be informed.

Inkscape problem ... ( I tested with Xara LX - Gimp - Krita - Fireworks8 under Ubuntu Feisty Herd4 - all programs can save correct width and height at 96 DPI only Inkscape must be set to 90 - to keep proportions)
Else.. best regards guys, let's pray for XARA PRO on Linux.

when tracing my 300 dpi scans in inkscape and importing into xara as pdf, they need to be reduced to 30% to match the original size - ie the ratio 300/90 which ties in with whats been said here.
inkscape has a default bitmap export setting of 90dpi - which you can change, though I've not experimented - anyone know why it uses 90dpi?

Nothing lasts forever...
Inkscape uses the SVG definition of a pixel which in turn is derived from the CSS specification. The CSS spec used to recommend a pixel density of 90dpi, in the absence of specific knowledge about the display device. It looks like the newest versions recommend 96dpi however, so this might be considered a bug in Inkscape.

Sorry . . silly question asked prematurely. I feel much better now.
