lasm, in the xara forum there were some very interesting threads about creating this sort of thing. When I first looked at yours I noted the letters weren't casting a shadow. I then realized that, of course, the letters could be on the page behind and so wouldn't cast any shadow. Then, if on the page behind wouldn't there be some optical distortion? I don't know - even so, I do enjoy seeing these kinds of glassy illustrations. Fun stuff!

I just looked at the Xara Tips forum, and yes there are a lot of interesting tips there.. Here's a slightly different take, from the same script, the drop shadow isn't too pronounced.
