Eraser problem

Having problems using the eraser, I press shift the - sign comes up and the pencil reverses but the eraser isnt working....any ideas???

Sorry . There is no eraser tool. That is why it does not work..

Using the freehand tool, if you don't let go of the mouse and hit the shift key, the tool inverts and a minus sign shows up allowing you to retrace your path to erase. If you release the mouse, it loses the ability to erase that line.

Could it be a layer problem ?
