What is Cropping

Can someone please explain to me exactly what Cropping means?

It's like cutting away a part of a picture to resize it.

Cropping is selecting a smaller section of a larger image to:
1. Make a more artistic image
2. Make a less cluttered image
3. Use a portion of an image to emphasize a presentation.

All or none of the above can be the purpose for 'cropping'. It's all up to your choice.
