I swear I can hear this thing tick!

Sorry it's so big, but it really needed all the frames, or it just looked silly.

Is there a way of synchronising several animated gifs so that they start together? I'd like to build up a complex animation from several simpler "modules" if it is possible, and each module would have its own independent frame/cycle and frames/sec settings.

Preloading the various images might be the answer you seek. It won't work on this forum but it can work well on a web page. It is a common technique for mouseover graphics (so the second image displays instantly on mouseover). It has been a while since I coded html but if I'm not mistaken a page via preloading can load an image without displaying it - the image downloads to the visitor's temporary internet files. Visiting a subsequent page where the graphic is to be displayed, it will load from the hard drive rather than downloading. You could use a series of introduction pages (which preload the images in the background) culminating in the displayed assembly of images. That could also be done by having each of the series of introductory pages each display one portion of the overall assembly. By the time you get to the page with all of them together, all the images have already been downloaded and should display more quickly.

Well maybe these ramblings will give you some ideas...

I thought that the eventual medium would probably have to be a web page of some sort, but I have almost no experience in building them. Ah, well, something else to pick up.

The complex animation is a sort of long-term goal I've had in mind for a few weeks now, and it's a deliberate challenge as I know I need to learn some new techniques to make it work (assuming it is practical at all, but I think it will be).
