Hi,
as a beginner in creating Flash Movies, I like to know if it is possible to save any Flash movies, banners or templates I can see on websites. This not to copy them, but to learn about it ! It seems so difficult to start!!!!!

Any tips on Flash Websites for learning, I mean fast learning...

well, saving a .swf probably won't help you, since getting them back to a .fla state is a pain in the a$$. it's best to start of with tutorials. http://www.flashkit.com and http://www.were-here.com both have tons of good tutorials for people just starting out in flash. there are tons of good resources for flashers out there. flashkit is one of the big ones, though (and our very own bill spencer is a moderator there). btw, bill has his own resource site, which is pretty good - check it out at http://www.popedeflash.com

hopefully these are some pretty good starting points. and remember, if you have any questions, feel free to post them here, and we'll all do our best to answer them for you!!!

As I advised in the other thread The Flash Bible is great reading and equally good learning .. Picked it up 6 months ago and within two weeks I had my first flash site ..

Trust me you can't learn anything from saving swf movies .. There is nothing to see within the file even if you import it into flash ..

On many big sites with Flash tutorials you can download source files -i.e. files with .fla extension. The best way to learn is to work through a tutorial and look at the original .fla file. When you gain more experience the original .fla would be enough to understand "how it was done".
Good luck.

I would have to disagree on that .. With out the flash core basics even reading source files can make you dizzy. And most tutorials assume that you already know the basics ie; tweening, buttons, library etc etc.. If I were just starting out I wouldn't know what these things were nor where to find them even if I was looking at the source files.

Rik, that is why Macromedia provides very simple Lessons and Tutorials which can be accessed from the Help Menu (All comes with the program). Also there are hundreds of very simple tutorials on the Internet from sites like Flashkit and Wearehere.

One could become a better lover after reading something like Kama Sutra, but unless you try...
Just an attempt to find analogy :-)

Books are good in a way that they give you an agenda, keep you organized. There are many great books for Flash out there, but why spend big buck (or whatever) on something you can get for free?
I know many would disagree however.
Anyway, I guess it's different for everybody.

Incidentally, in case anyone's interested, there are pretty good tutorials at http://www.were-here.com which are targetted towards people who know absolutely nothing about Flash. Flashkit has a few, too, but it's a bit harder to find them. The book might be a good idea, but if you're not the sort of person who likes picking stuff up from a Website or a book, you might want to look at taking a little course that will teach you the fundamentals of Flash - then when you've got the fundamentals down, go to those tutorials, or to the books, or just start tinkering on your own. Either way, there are tons of resources out there - you just have to decide what's best for your style of learning.

Incidentally, as you're going through stuff, feel free to ask questions - we get tons of newbie questions here, so don't be shy!!! Just ask Scott (a/k/a Stinger) - when he first came to the old i/us forums, he was a complete newbie - now he's one of the guys answering questions around here!!! Hopefully you'll get the start you need, and when you do, come on back and ask questions to your heart's content. C U soon!
