Can someone tell me how to make a simple
outline (or inline) on a shape
in Corel Xara 2?? I know how to
control the line widths, but I
need a real editable vector line.

For example, I have some other vector
programs that will let me select a
shape (or text), choose a function called inline/outline (or something similar), set
the dimension, and get a perfectly
proportional inline or outline. Specifically, I need this for text shapes that don't work with a simple copy/resize...I need true PROPORTIONAL inline or outlines scaling.

There must be a way but I have tried
    everything.

    Thanks, Kevin

This is very difficult to achieve in CX, although it's probably possible to create the end result you're after in a different way (what are you trying to do?). The Contour or 'Convert line to shape..' tools in Xara X were specifically included to overcome the problem.

Not your real name I assume :-)

The only way I can suggest in CorelXara is by creating stacking lines with different weights.

In the attached image I made two duplicate shapes and added a heavy outline to the object in the back, a more modest outline to the object in the middle, and no outline to the object on top.

Change the back object's outline to black (or what ever color you want it to be) the middle objects outline color to white (or the color of your background) and the top shape has no outline.

It is editable, but you'll need to start from scratch each timeand recreate the two outlined shapes.

As Sean has pointed out, this is much easier to do in Xara X.

    Thanks Sean and Gary,
Actually that is my last name.
Im the Goleta guy, remember?? :-)

Gary, I can do what you did, but
what I mean by editable is I need
the actual lines to be editable.
    Check out the attachment. Funny
thing is, I have a couple of VERY
old drawing package (for the sign
    industry) that can do this.

Then you remember my telling you my brother, who has never used a computer, lives in Goleta?

The new Contour tool in Xara X can do this easily.

I landed in this forum by accident (meant to click on the XaraX forum) and read this thread. I decided to open XaraX and try to make an editable text outline. It was ridiculously easy. I used the Valken font. Then I added a 1 pt outline. Then I used Arrange+Convert Line To Shape and the filling of the letters disappeared, leaving the outline which is now a shape I can edit like any other shape:
