'm scratching what's left of my one brain cell to remember where I saw something about designing a personal font set. I quickly found the $500+/- Fontagrapher from Macromedia on-line, but I remember something in XaraX or Corel about creating a new font from scratch?

    HELP!

    Hi Wayne,

I've read that Corel can be use to create a font. I think with XaraX you would need another program to read the vector information and create the font.

I use a program called FontLab. Just checked their website pyrus.com and they are expensive too. $549.00 USD for version 4.5 and I paid $300.00 USD for version 3 a couple of years ago.

Try this tool, Font creator programm (windows only), for creating TTF, supports raster to vector conversion, it's shareware and the registration is 50$, I think...

can create custom fonts. Actually, you have to design the characters and then use CorelDRAW to create the font.

I wrote an article about this in CorelUser Magazine #68.

Sadly, CorelUser Magazine ceased publication several years ago. They were really good people. The magazine was published in the UK. They have a website with the publications listed and the contents but the article is not on-line.

I believe you're thinking of Laurie McCanna's Corel tutorial...

I also use Fontlab and picked it up for around $350US {$750 Canadian pesos} http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Here's a few other online tutorials you might want to look at:

There's a great tutorial on Hinting:

I didn't realise you had written that article. I used to belong to the CUA in fact I was on the committee for maybe 4 or 5 years until it's demise. I still have all my Corelusers and it hasn't taken long to find the article you refer to so I have it open in front of me. If you would give your permission I could do a PDF copy of your tutorial for anyone who may be interested.

Gary Bouton wrote a two-part article about font-creation with CorelDraw at designer.com, but I just noticed they have changed the site and I was completely lost http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Perhaps Gary B. himself can inform you.

Yes if anyone is interested you could make a PDF file with my compliments.

Designer.com had a grand re-opening in the summer of last year and almost as quickly a not so grand closing. They fired most of the staff. I have not heard whether they plan to re-open it again or whether it is dead in the water.

I have many articles that were on the old site on typography. Most were never linked to on the new site.
