Help to recreate this effect

I don't know how the image you posted was made but you can create grungy effects by building up the look of decay using multiple bitmaps with Xara's transparency effects as per the attached image I just made. I've also attached the .xar file if anyone wants to dissect it.

I'm sure there are far simplier ways to get an effective grunge effect without resorting to the transparent overlay technique I used. Hopefully others will post their ideas.
