It all depends on the software you are using and how you have the site structured on your hard disc.

There is no difference between an FTP folder and any other sort of folder. FTP is simply one means by which files are transferred between one computer and another (File Transfer Protocol). HTTP is another of these protocols.

If you want OTHER people to be able to upload files by FTP to YOUR site then you need to give them special security - one option is using a scripting language like PHP together with a database of users (with names and passwords) - the usual option here is MySQL. Alternatively, if your server is Linux, then HTACCESS files are used so a dialog pops up asking for a user name and password.

If what you mean is how do you get a site on your PC to the server, then you need at least something like SmartFTP.

Our Scottish friend had trouble with your question because it was not clear which one you were asking! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

You make up a directory for your site which must hold everything that the site needs to run.
Then divide up your site into manageable pieces with a directory for the navigation - dir. for graphics, you get the idea. What you must have is the index (home) page at the top of the tree right under the root site directory.

If the site is simple, a static site, no email forms or interactive then all you need is the address of your storage area and as Simon states this is normally ftp. You also need a user name and password to log into that site so that you can upload.

Simon has made a good recommendation with Smart another you may look at is Wise. There are many ftp trnsfer software available some free and some costing pennies. Do buy a book if you are going to start making a web site as you will save a huge amount of time rather than looking at tuts. on the web.

    Best of luck!
