When I get bored I make Wall Papers. Sometimes this helps me to explore tools and techniques that I might not use normally.

Very nice, how did you construct the tentacle thingie? Did you use SDS/Hyper Nurbs?
--Randy
Hi Randy,
The object started as a HyperNurbs ball. The individual polygons were then extruded using the Matrix tool in Cinema4DXL. The claws that hold the gems were also done this way, except in a more controlled manner.

Geez, I thought you were dead or something! <g>
Ron's got a wonderful idea here...if you are too bored or inspiration doesn't hit you immediately at the computer, get to designing wall paper, or more specifically textures and backgrounds. Bryce is practically effortless for generating calm scenes, and Photoshop, Three-D Graphics, and Flaming Pear software are excellent at creating plausible surface textures. Also, there's Painter 6, probably the easiest verion ever, and if you buy a Wacom tablet (Graphire) for around $100 US, you get Painter Classic for free...and there's a LOT of textures you can create almost instantly.
I'd also like to recommend scanning stuff, like crumpled paper, cereal, and such for ceating bump maps.
