I went to the Betis site and they have no listing for Xara 3d and at Xara, Xara3d 5 sells for $45, not $60

My guess is they're either resellers selling the product for more or they are ripping off Xara. Notice they have no company profile: http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/4024-5_...ml?tag=upidmlp
Bad sign!!

Something is weird here.
Also, ZDNet seems to be very biased in their product reviews. If you look at their review of XaraX, from the initial review, it doesn't look that great, you have to read the full review to get a sense of what a good program it is.
Xara3d is really an amazing, simple, elegant, fast, etc. I am just blown away by it and all the imporvements in v5 after updating from v3. Only wish there were some way to export the shadows into Flash... why isn't that possible?
Flash does support transparency in gif and other files and even in jpg files within Flash. I use SwishMax which is excellent.

I didn't notice the product reviews, was that on the same page?
As for Xara, unfortunatly you are asking the wrong person. Bascially I can't do anything with Xara 3D5. I guess for a 3D software it's pretty good, I was just expecting something different when I bought it.
That's Life!

Xara3d 5 is not a full featured 3d program like TrueSpace, etc.... it's mainly for making 3d animated text, logos, etc. But it only takes a few hours to get the hang of it, instead of a few months. You can use bit map images (jpg, bmp, etc.) as texture fills for the 3d image or font you are playing with. You can import wmf, emf, Webster & XaraX vector files and handle them just like you would with the fonts. You can also try different button effects and styles and immediately see what they look like then alter them the way you want them. Give it a chance before you decide against it. Also, the program includes the Webster vector program, sort of a scaled down XaraX wich you can use to create vector images from bit map images by tracing them then import them into Xara3d to add 3d an animation.
PS.. really like your BF logo and name! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks for all the information. You make it sound so great!!! Considering the price we paid for it, I guess it's not that bad. I haven't tried all that emporting exporting stuff yet but I think I'll give it a try. I definitly know who to contact if I run into trouble. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Off topic......Hi, DF. Were you ever able to get your logo finished in Xara3d? If not, the folks on this board can probably help out. I've even played around with it, but never posted anything because I thought you might not be trying X3D anymore.

fencePost: On topic... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif I found the other thread to DF and there are some really good solutions.
I've had pretty good luck tracing bitmaps to vector using CorelDraw and exporting as wmf files in the past, then importing into Xara3d-3. Haven't tried using XaraX or even Webster to export their file types as I haven't used them too much yet.. will Webster even do traceing?
