Lovely sunset but the other photo: Did you place the stone there or was it like that?

Thanks Rik. The stone was just there like that. I thought it made an interesting photo.

The ivy and stone really do make this an interesting composition. I also liked the depth of colour on the leaves and the sunlight patch in the foreground.

Thanks, the sun was just beginning to set when I took the photo and the lighting was just perfect.

agree - the 'lower sun' looks completely out of place to me..

This is a sunset mirage, low slanting rays refracted between air layers of different temperatures. I am no expert, still learning to look beyond the obvious, but if you want to see some amazing stuff with explanations then visit Atmospheric Optics website, Les Cowley. Amazing optics that we can capture photos of.
Hope it may give you some explanations to the things we see at times and think 'thats a bit strange' and a mission to try and capture through the lens. Lots of interesting fun.
I hear what you say - but it just does not look natural, notwithstanding...
maybe Frances can put us right....

kshep is correct I only made some very slight adjustments to the contrast of this photo. The double sun is exactly what the camera captured.
