Default Stereogram - A depth mask & perspective experiment

I've been working on this stereogram and trying to hone my depth mask creation skills using only Xara Xtreme. It's been a tremendous learning experience trying to achieve, not only the depth, but, a believable perspective in the final SG. There were more than several times that I thought that I was in way over my head attempting a multi-level view but I think I've worked it out. This stereogram has a fairly wicked depth factor which made placing any nifty floating images on top a rather sickening viewing experience. Even those that can usually see these things may have a slight difficulty in working out the hidden image. Please, don't give up as I think the effort will be more than worth it.

For those that can see these 3D worlds, I'd appreciate any critiques, suggestions or other feedback you may have so that I can improve on my future stereograms.

As always, my thanks go to Gary Priester for his inspiration and his many insightful and revealing tutorials. I am but one small candle that has been lit by Gary's bright torch.

    Thanks for looking,
    Harry

    Thank you, Steve.

It's an entrance concocted purely from my imagination so, as in most art, it can be whatever it appears to be to the viewer. For you it's a football ground, for someone else it's a museum, to another it's an archive... Maybe others will chime in and tell us what they think it is.

My first impression was a galeon's entrance to the lower deck.

Stairs with railings and a wall with circular windows? Maybe if you used the mapped texture outline, it would be easier to make out.

BTW Stones are a perfect pattern for stereograms. They are so random and really hold detail.

Yep works here. It takes some concentration to get the detail, but all in all a good one.

Right you are, GWP. I'll try the MTO on my next go 'round.

You're correct, I went with the seamless stone because it brought out much more of the detail. I started out using wood, foliage and some random patterned textures but kept returning to the stone fill after I tried it.

Thanks Jimi. I'm glad you were able to successfully complete the 'eyercise'.

I can see it too. Quite clever as stereograms usually pop out at us but this recedes.

You've certainly nailed the effect, Harry. I can "see" this one very easily.
I like the way the railings pop out, and the tunnel recedes. As David said, "fascinating".

    Bob.
