Default Is it possible to modify the Open File dialog?

Thanks in advance for help with what is really just a petty annoyance. I feel a bit guilty wasting your time with it.

When I open a file, I want to be able to sort the lists better. The Xara default dialog shows these fields: Name | Date Taken | Tags | Size | Rating.

I don't use Tags or Rating, so I would prefer something like: Name | Ext | Date Modified | Size
At least that way, I could sort by Date and Ext.

Like I said, my request couldn't be more trivial, but if there's a way to do this, it would be great.

    Thanks,
    Bud

As far as I am aware the Open File Dialogue is a windows function and not a Xara function.

You can set your preferences in Windows. Don't ask me how, because it always seems to do something bizarre for me.

My Open File dialogue box doesn't show anything yours seems to show, and I have no idea how to set it. But since they are different, it would seem logical that they are customizable.

if I understand correct - for windows XP:

left click the field name bars at the top of the columns and slide left or right

FYI: you can alter the settings type by right clicking on the white space, and selecting 'view' - your setting will be 'details' I think, Keith's different

This is as it works in windows explorer because, as Keith said, that is what xara is using here

    If you do the following:

    Menu > Open

Make the View details: Click the view menu icon (or a Steve said right-click the white space)

Right-click the Name|Size|Type etc. boxes at the top.

    Go down to More....

You can then see all the options and can check or uncheck as required and use Move Up and Move Down to re-order as required.

This is in XP if you are using Vista (or other) it may vary.

The "Tags", "Rating" stuff on Vista drives me mad.

I never want to use either but don't seem to be able to change settings such that all explorer windows show just name, size, date.

Is it just me, or don't the changes stick? Plus, they appear to be for that folder only. I'm using XP.

At home, I used to use Cottonwood's File-Ex app for modifying my Open dialogs. May go back to it. No Vista version, though.
