Another question on layers, merging?

I know there are already a lot of threads on layers but I didn't see this specific one answered. Is there a way to merge layers like in photoshop so the way two layers looks becomes one layer? I have a white layer and a layer sketched with the pencil tool. I want them to merge into one so I can color over them with watercolor like a sketch. I tried group merge but that was something wierd. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

After you group them, next "collaspe" the group.
