ok, so I have had some practice...what's your point? lol...just joisting ya...

now on to the much more serious grey matter
first off, the basis for my submission is one stemming from saving any and all graphics for the web...that in mind, here are a couple of examples

This first example is 24 bit gradient saved at 75% jpeg weighing in at 1497 bytes ( notice the artifacting of course )

This second example is 24 bit full color png weighing in closely at 1504 bytes. much cleaner though very close to the same file size.

This third example was created in 24 bit mode as well, saved as 256 color png ( no interlace or dithering applied ) and weighs in at a very respectable 749 bytes and is also much cleaner than is the first jpeged example.

There ya have it from my perspective, all grey according to my eyes, all created in 24 bit mode so layers are not an issue, and thus, I truly need to be enlightened further on the 16 bit way of thinking...I got me a feeling that I am still way off base here even though my eyes tell me different

Thought I would add a couple of color gradient ramps ( most of you already know this info, but I thought this would be pretty cool info for those who did not... )

This first color ramp was created in 24 bit mode and saved as jpeg 79% and weighs in @ 2920 bytes.
you will notice the jpeg leaves a slight bleed like artifact

This second example of the color ramp was created in 24 bit mode and saved as png 256 color ( again no interlace or dithering etc. ) and weighs in @ a very respecatble 2223 bytes. Much smoother gradient without the "bleed" look

So for you newer web designers out there who are looking to put gradient effects in your graphics, try optimizing your images with png to get the best effect...
