Maybe I'm just missing something simple here, but is there a way to create 3D cylinders, for use in making a 3D bolt (as in nuts and bolts), for instance?

Nevermind...I basically answered my own question.

Just a matter of importing a circle image, and playing around with the extrusion settings...

It's quite simple to create cylinders, but to create a Nut and Bolt is a bit beyond Xara3D's capabilities.

Yes, the bolt is proving to be rather problematic!! The nut, however, was a piece of cake.

I thought I had the bolt figured out, but there isn't any way to match up the bolthead with the bolt-thread...let alone create a decent looking bolt-thread!

    Hmm...

I should clarify, that the nut image was created in Xara X (just a hexagon with a circle cut out in the middle), and THEN imported into Xara 3D.

    Carry on.

.....you can do it using a combination of XaraX and Xara3D but I wouldn't recommend it or try to create a tutorial!
