Hi All,

Well, four entries is better than none. Hopefully, next month's contest (I haven't thought of it yet) will have more people entering.

Now, we need a judge and because I entered, I cannot be it.

I'd very much like Mark or Erik to be a or the judge(s).

Can either of you take a look at the thread

and come up with a winner? Rationale should include effort and effect.

TIA and I hope either of you READS this !

Well, here is my opinion.

Of course I like all entries, and hope to join the participants soon. The texture I liked most was posted by Mark outside the thread, so luckily, he's not in. Gary, being the moderator can't really participate as he chose the theme and the rules. Rules? Yes:

"Show us your best texture map, tell us what it is for, show us it in use in an image, and MOST importantly, tell us how you made it."

For this reason, Stu and Sharon fall off because Stu did not show it used in an image, and Sharon did not show the texture map.

Of the two candidates left, the images and textures have approximately the same strength. Wayne gives one very strong, and Randy gives us several. BUT, ladies and gentlemen, because Wayne "whipped" a texture and Randy worked hard for his result, I choose RANDY as the winner of this contest.

And I hope Mark disagrees completely as this might enliven the forum with loads of pyroclusters and Fireworks (not Macromedia's)

Howgh. I have spoken.

Hi peoples!
I just got back from holidays last night.

Ok i'll agree to be a judge also; if that's still open.

I agree with Erik's narrowing down of the final 2 contestants, and the reason's he gave.

However, i feel that Gary's texture should win. The main reason? Ok... it's a tougher type of texture to make look good when rendered. Specifically because of it complex bump/diffuse mapping requirements.

I like Randy's texture though. It probably took a fair amount of time to create. And creating a texture from scratch is always more appreciated where quality is concerned.
But i feel that dispite this fact, Randy's texture is a somewhat easy one to apply and make it look good when rendered - specifically because it's a 'decal' or '2D' style of texture.

If anyone needs more/other reasons for the decision, just ask.

That's my vote!
So... i think we have a tie... right?

Aaa... ok... NOW what Gary?! hahaa

Hi Mark--

No, it's not a tie. The fine print said that moderator cannot be contestant although he/she/it can submit entries in order to make the earth a prettier place.

I'm running these contests (you wanna judge September's?) to restore circulation to this forum. And do it without straying into our debate and pen and ink ramblings.

And mozzarella cheese is better than American.
