Thanks Michael, To really look "authentic" I think it would need micro scratches and more swear words and initials.

Erik - At first I thought you were losing it bigtime! It took a second, and then a third reading your post before I realized you aren't crazy - just funny! I wouldn't have thought you'd be familiar with the Flintstones. Do you know them only from the movie or did the original cartoons make it to Belgium too?

Golly gee. One goes away for the weekend and returns to see ol' Ross has been smoking away with his mallet and chisel.
Well, here's my initial attempt.
More to come, to be sure.

Very slick Gary! I especially like the insetting of the medallion - nice touch. Your "It's not carved in stone" is the exact opposite of a graphic I did a few years ago for my website. I've attached it below. The low res jpg made the moss look mossier but made the text a little hard to read.

I was going to include the chisel but it was too big to fit in the drawing

Wayne - Wow, did you sneek into the park at night when nobody was looking? Looks great!
Seeing Mt. Rushmore makes me remember an old interview I saw with Cher. She said that as a teenager she was really naive. She commented that when she saw Rushmore she was impressed by the likenesses - she thought it was a natural formation!

I'm happy to see you left the noses intact
Here's my carved stone attempt #2 featuring raised bronze letters (the font is called Rennie Macintosh, named for another architect of the same name) with a verdigris patina and an embellishment from the Adobe Minion Symbols.
I actually used a wood carving chisel, because I could not find my stone cutters chisel.
The rough carved stone is on the CD in the Fill Gallery > Stones section.

That looks great Gary! The bronze looks perfect.
I was playing with UltraFractal until it crashed. Then I moved on to Xara. I started to create a background of gobbilty-gook random typing. I don't know how it happened but all of a sudden a fractal formula was pasted in. Rather weird because I was only one-finger typing. I suspect the "insert" key might have something to do with it. Anyways, I ended up using the fractal formula as the background. The font featured is "Tag Let Plain". I don't remember where I got it - I really like it. It seems well suited to carving words of wisdom.

Fellow stone carvers and critics - Gary has started a new thread that can be a continuation of this theme. This one's exceeding the pain threshold of our modem-deprived friends. You can find the new thread here. If you want to reply to this thread, (heaping praise or condemnation on the efforts of your fellow xarans), please do it in the other thread.
