I have a drawing in which I want to preserve anti-aliasing for the whole drawing but turn it off only for one object, which is a bit of text at 10pt. Xara lets me change this setting only for the entire drawing. Do you know a way by which I can do this only for ONE object?

You could create a separate transparent bitmap of the text at the correct resolution then use it instead of the normal text object.
