Anybody care to render a fire opal? The exquisite, subtle colors in opal should make for a wonderful Xara X exercise (or tutorial, Gary?).
Erik - jade rings like the ones you have drawn were highly treasured in the orient the last time I was there.
Christine - Lovely work. Star sapphires are a favorite of mine.
Al - I agree, it's been many years since I've seen a fire opal.

Its been a while since I've seen an opal but I thought I'd give it a try after seeing Erik's post in the main forum describing how he made is rings of translucent jade. I used the same technique of overlayed transparent shapes. I jumped around between solid colour fills with fractal clouds transparency and fractal cloud fills with flat transparency. All in all I think nine or ten superimposed shapes create the opal like effect. I also played around with the various transparency types.

PS - I've been having very strange difficulty trying to upload this post and its attachment. Maybe the Xara Opal has a curse!

it's a bit off topic, but i really like those little stones you can buy at markets as a necklace, and when i saw this topic, i thought about making this. this is my first work in XaraX, and it took me 2 hours to draw.(i'm working on a much bigger project, but it won't be ready in the near future)
