Golly Jin, so much to learn and so little time. The layer thingy will be so new to me. Since using PhotoImpact for so many years, with no layers, I'll have to retrain my brain....lol Is there a way you can view all the layers? Just one tiny question of many to come..

If you're learning how to use Layers in whatever version you have, the effort won't be entirely wasted so just continue to learn as much as you can. If there are changes, we'll have to learn them together.

I'm sorry to notice that I missed part of your message, the question about seeing all Layers.

Yes, all Painter 6 Layers (Painter 5/5.5 Floaters and Transparent Layers) are listed in the Layers list (Floater list). To see them listed, go to the Objects palette's Layers section (Floater section). In Painter 6, click the small right-pointing triangle to open the Layers section (in Painter 5/5.5, click the Floater icon to open the Floater section).

In your image, all Painter 6 Layers are visible unless, in the Layers list, you click their Eye icons to close them (all Painter 5/5.5 Floaters/Transparent Layers are visible unless, in the Floaters list, you click their Eye icons to close them).

Of course any painted and/or Filled areas of a Layer (Floater/Transparent Layer) will hide whatever is below that Layer (Floater/Transparent Layer) on other Layers (Floaters/Transparent Layers) below it, as well as the Canvas.

Layers (Floaters/Transparent Layers) shown in the Layers list (Floater list) correspond to the order you see them in the image. To change their heirarchy, in the Layers list (Floater list), click and drag a Layer (Floater/Transparent Layer) up or down the list. This change of heirarchy is reflected in the image as well.

I've just posted a new tutorial at PixelAlley, on the main Tutorials page, that can be worked with an older one. You'll find the new one at the bottom of the list under:

There's a note below that link about where to find the other one that's appropriate to use with it (and vice-versa). Both are written for Painter 6 and include translations for Painter 5/5.5.

I can answer alot of Painter 7 questions. Every one can ask away.

First off If you loved Paulo's watercolor brush will you haven't seen anything yet.
With watercolor as well as Liquid ink layers and a whole bunch of controls for how the brushes behave. You can really do watercolor work in Painter 7. There are 41 basic brush variant's for Watercolors. With brush variants saved as XML files it will be easy for us to share brushes for Mac to Pc.
Basic interface has been cleaned up with text you are able to type right in the file and not in a dialog box. All the text controls are now in the object palette. You can turn off parts of a palette you either don't use or are not using on a current file to save monitor run and simplfiy your desktop.

Since I'm on a PC, this probably sounds like a dumb question but does your Mac override the Painter interface colors? Or is that not what you're talking about?
