Hi folks

I've been released from my Beta test NDA to discuss Draw 11

If you have any questions about the new features / enhancements / differences. I will be happy to answer them.

Please bear in mind that I cannot and will not discuss specifics regarding bugs as I only have a beta copy and things are still being worked on even at this stage and my NDA prevents this.

I will say that so far things have proceeded quite well and it is looking to be a good, if not great release. I will be moving to Draw 11 at work when it is released, even though I have to buy a new copy as I still use Draw 7 there.

Also I haven't used Draw 10 so I don't know how much is new and may cover old ground, I have used all versions prior to this however.

Thanks Peter for the offering

Rave:
1- Rave rotations bug, is it fixed, as you can rotate objects smoothly

2- How good is the text on a path animation?

3- Import functions, AVI's, and SWF files more smoothly

4- Copying and frazzing keyframes

5- Animating Extrude text or shapes . How good?

Draw:
1- Bevel tool like the one in Xara

2- can cut through a pic like the nife but using shapes instead the nife

3- Elliptical fill, added?

4- Feathering objects like Xara and Illustrator

Photopaint:

1- Pasting from Draw directly as a path, or still

2- Is there is any changes regarding Layers mangements ( each layer or objects shows underneath it all the effects that belong to selected object, like Adobe)
2- What new Filters?

I have more but i don't want to be selfish, i will give others to post there questions

But more will be coming...

Hi Peter.

Just one question regarding property bars.
In version 8 you could reduce these by a scale of 40% or increase by 60%.
In version 9 this still functioned properly with PhotoPAINT but DRAW no longer allowed you to reduce, only increase by 100%.
I was informed this was a known programming error, yet in version 10 rather than correct this Corel decided to carry the DRAW 9 settings over to all three programs allowing bars to be increased in size only.
This property bar scaling was a great way of getting maximun screen area when not running monitors at the highest resolution.
Just wondering what they have opted for in version 11.

Best regards...Sark

R.A.V.E:

1. I haven't used a version of R.A.V.E. before, so I don't know what you are referring to. I have attached a rotating object to this message, 30 frame animation.

2. Will try and get back with a text on path animation.

3. No elliptical fill in either R.A.V.E. or Draw

4. Don't know what 'copying and frazzing' means, sorry.

5. I'll try and get back to you with text animation and Rotated Extruded animation.

Draw:

1. Bevel tool is as before, still vector.

2. Knife tool and eraser tools are unchanged, but there is a new simplify trim option which might be adapted to do something similar.

3. See above

4. Feathering of Vector objects, no, but in line with maintaining vector integrity for exported graphics (which we have discussed before ;-) Corel have added roughen and smudge tools which are quite fun.

Paint

1. Paths are still exported via CMX

2. Adjustment layers still affect all objects

3. Hard to say I may not have a complete set, I know that several have been enhanced, I will try and post some screen shots of those that are different to PP9 (I have not used PP10.)

On a plus note Draw layers export to PP11 objects/layers finally.

And the new cutout tool is really cool.

In PP11 you still have the slider and can adjust it up or down by 5 increments from the default.

Looks like you can still only increase the border width of toolbars in Draw 11. I have never done this before so did not know it was an issue.

Misread the bit about photopaint question 2

No the object docker is unchanged, however I just learned something important.

This works in V9, should work in V8 and V10

Start with a photopaint document containing several objects

Open the object docker

Add a new lens/desturate notice that all the objects are now greyscale.

Now in the object docker next to the name of the object, and after the 'eye' icon is a blank square, click on it and a paper clip will now appear, this means that only the immediately preceeding object will have the desaturate lens applied to it.

You can drag the lens down the object list and when it stops only the preceeding object will be made greyscale.

I never new this and I think it is very flexible. Checkout the attached screen shot, showing only one object affected by two lenses and grouped to allow easy moving up and down the object tree.

Hi Peter,
If you use a wacom tablet do you feel it supports its pressure sensitivity acurately?

Thank you for info on the lens feature ( and all the great new version info). I didn't know that. I always hated applying lens because it affected all layers & caused big slow down.

Yes it is my fault

I meant copying and freezing keyframes

Ex. In frame 5 you have a keyframe that changes the object size by 120%

Frame 20 you have another keyframe to scale the object t0 20%

So, now you want to add a keyframe that will scale the object 120%, So instead of adding and creating a new keyframe, all you have to do is copy the key from frame 5 and pasting it to frame 20 and so on

This is very helpfull if you have a complex and long animation

I hope i made it clear

Yes, this is surely a cool hint, regarding the lens only effects the preceding object not the whole objects beneath it

Thanks for the hint

1- How about performance, is faster, the same or slower?

2- Can you import SWF to RAve

3- can you luck layers in PP as in draw

4- are there any added features to Draw and PP taking from Micrografx products

more to come

thank for the animation

Hi all

I have been very buzy the last day or two and haven't had time to answer the newest questions.

Cheryl

I have a Wacom ArtPAD, but not hooked up on my Windows XP box at the moment, I will try and configure it soon and let you know.

AJ

No new lenses AFAIK, just did a count and they appear to be the same.

About the R.A.V.E. I don't think you can cut and paste Keyframes. But I don't know for certain.

There is a new feature called Sprites, you can define a specific animation which can then be reused (instanced) without much memory overhead.

The new Photopaint features are not as numerous as those in Draw or R.A.V.E. however the new Cutout option for easier masking is very nice, will try and post an example and the time taken to do it soon.

I concentrated mainly on Draw during my beta testing, however others who concentrated on Paint found much to their liking over PP10. Lots of positive posts over in the Corel newsgroups.

I will try and post some more stuff on Sunday or Monday

Have a nice weekend
