26 Colville images can be found here. (Klaus - You might be interested to know that Colvilles paintings are very flat without much texture. They are typically painted on flat board if I'm not mistaken).

quote:
I don't see Big Frank's work as simple photo copies. I am impressed by the effectiveness of the simplications he does make. The VW Splittie in this regard was incredible. Such simplications suggest to me Frank in his work is very analytical. While the results are photorealistic I don't see mindless copying at work. I see remarkable economy at work in his ability to achieve the photorealistic results with relatively few shapes...

Klaus' points I hope challenge us to analyze what we are attempting to communicate with our images. Are our goals aimed at technical reproduction or do we have more evocative goals?

I'm 100% with Ross here! That's why I ventured an opinion that Frank's pen and Quink bottle was 'much better than that', and followed it up with something about 'the elegant simplicity of bold brush strokes'...

Ross: "I tend to agree with Klaus on most points he makes."

You must install Xara's WEB/Flare plugin!

Klaus's Microphone, and other of his images, can be viewed without plug ins at

    Featured Artist May 1999

Addressing Ross's comments, and others: By not adding a copyright to his image, I assume that Frank has used "scrap" for his image. My guess is the image came from a photograph used in an advertisement, or perhaps a photographer's portfolio image. Am I correct Frank?

If Frank did not compose the image itself, but instead created a Xara recreation of the image, then it would be helpful to see the original and the copy side by side.

Thanks for the non-plugin plug, Gary!

I second Gary's desire to see the photo.

No you're not. I set up the composition on my desk and photographed it myself. Copyright in the case of both images is all mine!

Biggest Frank - IMHO your Xara image improves on the original.
