Acorn - You mentioned an app for converting Windows video to MP4 some time ago. I was thinking in lieu of this article from Malwarebytes that purchasing an app might be safer.

Gary, most get you to download an app onto your machine.
Why would paying for one give any more confidence.
I use the on-line ones sparingly and always force a scan of the result.
You need a solid AV program regardless.
Not yet trapped one.
More importantly, I never open a PDF in an email unless it is from a bona fide organisation.
PDFs can have embedded code, MP4s are less likely: https://security.stackexchange.com/q...ntains-malware.
There are always exploits.

Perhaps just a foolish notion. I probably only convert a dozen or so videos a year. Though we have gotten over 500K views on our YouTube page. Oddly, one made for X cross eyes viewing has received 100K views. Why would paying for one give any more confidence.

I can recommend https://cloudconvert.com - I've paid for credits to use it, but often I end up using it without logging in, and it still works free
https://zamzar.com is great too - I see people using that quite often
Thanks Daniel.

Some run on Windows, for occasional use, you can run Linux via live CD/DVD/USB drive.
