    Default HTM vs HTML

Around 2000 Windows began supporting file name extensions with more than 3 characters (8-bit).

So why does Xara even offer HTM as an extension? Worse still, why does Xara question you when you try to change index to index.html in Web Properties > Page > File Name

Most Web Servers are NOT looking for index.htm.

This should have been addressed a long long time ago.

    Default Re: HTM vs HTML

Nowadays, most web servers prioritize index.html over index.htm, and Xara's continued naming can be annoying for modern users.

    Info Re: HTM vs HTML

Xara Plus versions allow you to toggle between HTM/HTML.

Earlier versions, you set up a file with the first page, named index.html.
You then save as a Template and you are done.

These are not personal pronouns so no one should get in a huff.

Still, having the choice is all important.
The point is you need to know what you are doing or Xara will make the choice for you.

    RFC 2854 - The 'text/html' Media Type (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2854):
    File extension:
The file extensions 'html' or 'htm' are commonly used, but
other extensions denoting file formats for preprocessing are
    also common.
    - such as Apple's .TEXT.

HTM ran because of DOS/MS and especially the FAT disc format.
Most server configurations will look for index.html first but will still go with index.htm, just don't use both or you'll lose control of your publishing.
Some users still get confused and even save their design file, .XAR/.WEB, as index.xar or index.web and wonder where their past work has vanished to.
