    Default TIFF file

How can I get from a Xara document to TIFF without losing detail - for e.g. going through a .jpeg, I believe, will result in some loss of resolution?

you export a file as TIFF

the export dialog allows you to change dpi, select colour depth, and compression - LZW compression is not always recognised by other programs, selecting none here shold be ok but will give you a big file

you can either select those objects you want exported, or select nothing in which case everything will be exported

transparency is not supported, you'll get a white background

oh - one thing I forgot, TIFF is not a multi page format - so you would need to do multiple pages as separate files...

    Handrawn (and others)

Sorry, when I looked at my file export window I didn't see the TIFF option - because I was looking at the list as if it was alphabetic, so I messed it. Your post caused me to study the list more carefully. Thanks!

    you edited your original post

yes, uncompressed TIFF is a very high quality format, JPEG is not

however with photographs [continuous tone] there may be better alternatives

however with artwork, diagrams, animation, uncompressed TIFFs preserve fine detail, but as i said they can be large files at the required pixel size [dpi]

I believe TIFF is lossless to begin with which is why the files sizes are larger. TIFF is used primarily for print. That said, Xara's CMYK TIFF filter leaves much to be desired.

When I need a CMYK TIFF file for publication, I export a PNG and then convert to CMYK TIFF in Affinity Photo.

I can see why you convert to CMYK in affinity gary [the least said about xara's greyscale/CMYK capability the better]; however TIFF files are a standard in animation, and not just print, because they are as artifact free as you can get with maximum detail

but is there any reason you don't just export uncompressed CMYK TIFF from xara ?

PNG my be lossless, but that does not mean it has as much detail in the first place; with vector export that might not matter, with raster it can

The color is not as good. Xara has concentrated their CMYK export attention to PDF which makes sense. Except in my case I am exporting individual images for publication and PDF is am unnecessary extra step.
