Can I create an Image Map with Xara?

I have a class composite phote. I want to create an image map for each individual's picture in the composite. Simple, want to draw a rectange around a person's picture and add a hyperlink to it. I want to do this for each individual picture. Probably want to save it as a PDF that retains the hyperlinks.

Is this possible, or I would appreciate alternative suggestions. This is a project for a friends business. She is scanning all the old composites for a law school and they want an online site to search by individual name and display results. I believe I can handle the database and website design aspects. (Microsoft AI says sure Xara Designer Pro does this with the Image Map tool)

xara can create image maps that link to URL

you will need a web guy to tell you the best way to do that though, so maybe ask in the web forum; or someone may move this thread

Onlye, totally the wrong way to do it.

Image maps are so old, it's painful. Make the slightest position change and you have to regenerate all the image maps.

Instead, place a 99% transparent box over the image and add the Link to that.

There isn't an Image Map tool, just an option to create one for an image export.

@only ... Yes - you can draw an image map. If I'm understanding correctly you have a photo, and draw an image map over the photo. This would be a transparent oval with a link, making sure you have the transparent ovals in the layer above your actual photo. Clicking that would take you to another spot on your website. If its a website you could also use a pop up over each students picture.

BUT - in a pdf - its a different animal. You would retain the linkage but would this go to a website? Depending upon the characteristics of the program for a pdf, you 'may' include detail on the particular student on a separate page in your pdf.

I do a lot of newsletters with links - and the links direct the viewer to a website or email. I'm not sure if you can command a pdf link to move to another part of a pdf page - (like page 2) or a paragraph of sorts. You can on the website - but not sure in a pdf.

Both, here is a quick throw together: PDF Internal Links.xar & its PDF: WasteOfSpace.pdf

The first design page has an image with a translucent oval.
Change the oval to 99% Transparency.
It has a Link to an Anchor on the second apge.

When Previewed as web, the Link works.
When clicking on the same in the PDF, it also works.

I am using XPro Plus so the PDF Filter may be more advanced than earlier versions.

Very much along the lines of Acorns technique here's and example:

It has a single image containing 5 people.
Over each of the people there is a transparent rectangle linked to an individual page containing more details in a pdf file.

How you construct it would be up to you. A single xar file containing many pages would some become cumbersome and easy to mess up. I used a single xar file for the home page and then a single xar file for each of students, which could be based on a template page, then exported each one as single pdf. Or you could later use an online service to join each separate one into a combined pdf. Of course you'd need to change the links in the home page if you did this.

The content of the individual student pages are just screen grabs of an alternative way of doing this using js files but this couldn't be used as an alternative way of creating pdf's.
