This is a WIP of a piece that's part of a series of to-be what I call 'graffertisements' for a live music streaming station. There's about 30 DJ's that will get this treatment along with 7 more extra pieces that showcase each day's lineup/schedule. The overall idea is set aside a part of the image for 'actual design/typeography' and the rest of the space is just 'go wild graffiti/art' stuff. The idea is be eye catching first and the graffiti does speak to the kind of music of the DJ's, so this is a pretty fun fit.

That's very well drawn, and I like the concept.

You're Old School Hardcore and Drum and Bass, aren't you?

I am human, but yeah, this is for Kniteforce Radio, which plays techno, rave, breakbeats, gabber, dnb, etc. Basically anything loud with a lot of bass and fast and likely to annoy neighbors when not listened to responsibly.

I do have a question about Xara brushes, though...

So I came up with some 'easier than xara does it' gradient brushes and they're easy enough to make, but i'd like to more permenantly incorporate them into my copy of xara instead of saving them inside of a template i load up. Is there a way to 'properly' save a brush into xara itself or is it only part of the document file?

open a blank document, copy a single stroke of the brush you want into this file and save it with an appropriate descriptive name [this can be anything you choose as long as it's unique] - close all xara documents

    place that saved file into:

    C:\ > program files > xara > xara program folder > Templates > ENG > Brushes

open xara and you should find your brush in the line gallery under the name you gave it

[too many brushes added may hog memory]

    OMG, thank you!

I would share these brushes but it's easier to just to show a screenshot of what they are...the idea is mixing the gradient flares with brush sizes along with pressure profiles gets a few extra effects you can't get from using just the gradient/transparency tools, but they fit right into both of them style wise (i.e. airbrush-style look)...

So here's what I saved inside of my template file that has all the brushes used and shows them counter stroked as well because stacking them can get interesting effects like pipes, etc.Click image for larger version.

If the image is confusing, the brushes already made are on top in both directions and underneath is the gradient position used.

I don't find much use for the corner ones, but when I do, they're SOOOOO nice to have...it's sort of the same with all of these.

Stacking these on solids and inversing/using the 'opposite' brush style etc you can get a lot of fun effects relatively quickly (using large line sizes obviously).

Is there a way to save pressure profiles too?

Here's what's next in the list. This is actually for a longer project which includes over 30 pieces to make this is probably going to be a project gallery/process documentation for anyone who likes that thing. Basically, I've already selected the theme (graffiti style pieces), I've already selected the font for all of the pieces (the Rubik Family, a freeware google font family that works for my purposes), and I've already created a palette based on the inspiration for these, 90s MSDOS BBS graffiti ANSI pieces (you can see examples here: https://16colo.rs/pack/fire-41/ and yeah...

From here on out it's 'make eyecandy first, design some text to get people to go somewhere second'....you know, marketing toward the demographic.

At any rate, this one's for Ross Fader and the image is based on a frame capture from 90s cyberpunk anime satire CyberCity OEDO 808.

I'll post others for this series of online advertisement posts. I've already finished 5 others. So on days where I feel like going for a walk instead of vectoring, I'll post those I guess? I don't know if anyone is even into this stuff here. I always feel like my influences and output are at odds with whatever the general userbase for the software I use is...

    you are welcome

sadly no way to save pressure profiles into the gallery - but when you have a line with a pressure profile you want to reuse, you can copy that line with ctrl+C and then paste that attribute to another line using the paste attributes function shift+ctrl+A - it will of course copy all the attributes over so it is not ideal, but if you keep profiles you need as simple lines somewhere, at least you don't need to recreate them from scratch...

... and you could try making an art brush of a simple profile too....
